To Dye For

What a fabulous weekend! The boys were off school Friday for Teacher conference day. They are both exceeding grade level, although one has to work on his handwriting. Can't complain too much at that assessment :0)

We had a bunch of activities planned, some seasonal, some not, but all to die for.

First up, we dyed some yarn that Carrie sent me recently. It was very pale, almost no colour, and was crying out to be experimented on. So we donned our rubber gloves, got out the food dye and went crazy with the microwave.
I think the results are pretty stunning. The yellow is very golden, almost orange. Once it had been microwaved, no dye at all came out. Honestly, the water ran clear right away. And only a small amount of the green/blue dye came out of the second lot. This is the tutorial we used.

The yellow is already knit up into a "beekeeper's" flower, with the green/blue in the center. Pretty, huh! Love the green/blue, especially where it made some turquoise shades.
Also to die for, pumpkin soup. Not so popular with the small people, but mama loved it :0)

And the roasted pumpkin seeds. Butter, cinnamon and salt. Teddy helped with the measuring, which also included cookie dough, yet to be baked.......
...'Cause these cuties had to go on their Boy Scout "Gold Rush" camping trip. Are those bros not a-dorable?!
While they camped on Saturday, I went to my first fiber festival, the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair, near Asheville, NC. Here's my favourite picture of the hundreds (not!) that I took. Teeny-weeny alpaca. Look at those eyes!!!
Happy Monday y'all.
