We didn't quite know what to make of that statement and it's been a running joke ever since.
Loose's birthday is on Dec 31st. She asked if I would whip up a little something for her, my choice. I looked up owl patterns and couldn't resist this hat. Prepare your eyes for some more overexposed photos.... Being on this necessarily thrifty kick right now, I used some stash yarn. The colour is a nice mid-brown.
I only put eyes on the one owl, trying to make it stand out a bit more.

Talking of owls, and I swear the connection will become clear eventually, I have been thinking of telling you about a couple of blogs I read that I really, really like (rather than just really like!) and don't know if you read them too.
Needled is written by Kate Davies, who works at Newcastle University. Newcastle-Upon-Tyne is the biggest city near the town where I grew up, and home of the world famous Brown Ale :0) Kate writes about knitting, crafts, textiles, walking, history and a hundred other interesting subjects. If you wander over to her blog, you'll see another dimension was just added to her world too. Spend a little time reading back over her past posts, I'm sure you'll find something fascinating to engage your eyes and brain.
Oh, and that owl connection? She's the designer of the lovely owl jumper you can find here.

I love the owl cable! I like the eyeballs you sewed onto the one owl--nice touch!
Oh my goodness. This is the first time I've seen this hat and now I MUST make one. Too cute!
That is so cool. I would love to receive a hat like for my birthday.
This is fantastic... I know a couple of kidlets that would absolutely adore it!!! Was this a "you pattern" or one that you found somewhere? (you might have said, but I'm going on 4 hours of sleep... :))
omg toooooo cute! I absolutely love it! Did you just wing it (ahahaa...lame joke) or follow a pattern for the hat?
